It Just Irks Me

“Psychopathy is probably the most pleasant-feeling of all the mental disorders,” says the journalist Jon Ronson, whose book, The Psychopath Test, explored the concept of psychopathy and the mental health industry in general. “All of the things that keep you good, morally good, are painful things: guilt, remorse, empathy.”
(source)

Well, no, actually. There's the joy of accomplishment, the self-esteem benefit of knowingly doing good, the happiness of causing improvement (of oneself, others, or the world)...

STOP GLAMORIZING PSYCHOPATHY AND UNDERCUTTING VIRTUE.

The fear of punishment alone won't make you good. All it will make you is neutral. Goodness actually takes work and motivation. A lump of stone has committed no evil. It has committed no good either.

PEOPLE DON'T JUST DO GOOD AND AVOID EVIL BECAUSE OF "PAINFUL THINGS'. WHAT THE FUCK.

Did this really need to be STUDIED?

Smokers' brains biased against negative images of smoking

What's next? "Liberals' brains biased against negative depictions of liberalism"? "Conservatives' brains biased against negative depictions of conservatism"? "Gourmets' brains biased against negative images of food"? "Athletes' brains biased against negative images of sports"?

I like neurology and studies on how the brain behaves, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I have to wonder if some neurologists have ever interacted with human beings. People don't like to be told that pleasurable activities are bad for them, even if said activities are highly harmful? WHAT A SHOCK!

...Seriously, I expect to see "Study finds that bears frequently defecate in the woods" in the headlines any idea now. I would not put it past some Captain Obvious researchers to actually investigate that.

I wish I had paid more attention to certain courses when I was taking them. Wait, no, that's not true, I was paying tons of attention - I just couldn't force any knowledge through my cement-like brain.

guardians_song: GIF flashing up Japanese characters Shi, Kata, Ga, Na, I, then "It cannot be helped" in English (Shikata ga nai)

Weekend went all right.

Had its ups and downs.

Thinking of doing a randomized Silver Nuzlocke.

Not morose. Effect of alcohol apparently that glass of wine -> happiness and relaxation ~1 hour, crash after. Annoyed. Suspect added drinks of no use, as finite neurotransmitter reservoir -> effect inevitably of finite duration. Short duration before crash -> SHORT + finite reservoir. Very annoyed. One glass probably limit of useful effect. Therefore all drugs useless if one wine glass = maximum high.

Was never planning drug habit, but wished to at least feel virtuous for doing so. Feel like celibate priest who indulged and found self asexual.

Also unusually whiny in crash. May be blocked whininess-chemicals piling up and activating with fade of effect of wine, as adenosine piles up and activates with fade of effect of caffeine.

At least more concise. Blithering treatable. With booze withdrawal. -_-

Family also irritating. Will stop now before f-list bored.

P.S.
Had dinner at around 6 PM, now beginning to crash through to clingy state always following pissy state. Therefore: happy effect around 1 hour, pissy effect around 5 hours. Don't do drugs, kids. TFLN advertising false.

On bright side, TFLN exorbitantly funny when post-buzzed. Alarming: thesaurus excruciatingly funny when post-buzzed. Unnerving: far too many things extremely funny. Have possibly accidentally sequence-broken to stoned state through crashing through pissy state. Have gotten past point of making **** up. Insert hysterical, random, unstopping fit of laughter here. Going to bed.

Why the 'human beings as products of social forces' attitude sends me through the roof.

Of course social forces have some input. That's why they exist.

But the attitude that humans are just mindless bots totally shaped by external influences, which affect them at a ~subconscious~ level and thus cannot be falsified (You don't think you're being influenced as much as I claim? Why, that's because it's SUBCONSCIOUS, Binky, now continue to chew on your toy while the ENLIGHTENED One speaks), just pisses me off. Why?

Please note that this can apply to either religious or secular ideologies... )

Dear Social Justice Bloggers:

Stop talking about how damn PRIVILEGED you are.

Yes, we got it the first dozen times. You're privileged! You're privileged! You're really, really privileged, and you think it's terribly Right and Proper of you to emphasize how privileged you are so everyone knows you're repentant!

You know what shows off how privileged you are? That you think you're doing anything special by announcing how privileged you are. Anyone who doesn't share a given privilege with you is ABUNDANTLY aware of how privileged you are, thanks. That might have to do with the smug tunnel-vision and self-constructed sainthood in your speech - just tossing that out there, no need to pay attention to an unenlightened peon like me.

You really want to make up for your privilege? THINK about how people who don't share your circumstances might react to something, LEARN about the differences between you and those who aren't like you, and MAKE APOLOGIES about your mistakes and your ignorance. Your ACTUAL, SPECIFIC mistakes and your TRULY UNINTENTIONAL ignorance, mind, not just "Oh, it was my eeevil privilege acting up again, I've been SO bad - do PUNISH me next time, oh yesss, like the awful, privileged person I am *heavy breathing*".

Come off it. The parable of the taxman and the Pharisee applies to more than religion.

Anyone know why the VisualBoy screenshot option leads to me getting 3+ images from ONE tap?

...Maybe it's a feature so you can be sure to screen-capture fast-moving stuff? Anyway, it's annoying. I don't like having to delete huge chunks of images just to make the lineup of screenshots look clean... :\

EDIT: It obviously is. Can distinguish difference between screenshots taken right on the cusp of a frame change.

Okay, sorry. It's annoying, but I'll live with it. :P

In a word: UGH.
In an action: *dry sobbing*
In a question: WHY?!

So I analyzed the story to see what it would take to make me care about it. "Hamlet's Father" is what I came up with.

Liveblogging Orson Scott Card's... dubious... rendition of Hamlet.

So I'm using Google Books for my reference, so I'm not getting the whole thing. It apparently starts on page 77, and my preview begins on page 94.

That said, by the time I can see it, he hasn't even GONE OFF TO STUDY ABROAD. So, for a rendition of "HAMLET"? It desperately needs an editor.

And, oh boy, does it! You see, Orson Scott Card wrote:
"I have little interest in a dithering hero; nor am I much inspired by revenge plots. Yet I keep hearing that this is the greatest of them all.

So I analyzed the story to see what it would take to make me care about it."
So, naturally, he rewrites Hamlet as an excruciatingly flat hero who is Always Moral and Righteous and Actually a Pompous Ass (Unintentionally).

Ahem. I mean.

Trigger warning for pedophilia, misogyny, and Orson Scott Card. Um, does the last makes the other two redundant? )

...

Happens loads and loads of times in Fan Fiction, where, because Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls, the usual genders are most frequently seen flipped, with the female getting double-teamed by the two hot male characters the fic writer can't choose between.
Dear TV Tropes: consider that OT3s are sometimes not a matter of "can't choose", but rather CHOOSES BOTH.
No love,
Guardian's Song
(And yaaaaaay, totally handwaving every fic where it's two OR MORE girls and a guy! I totally imagined all those Harem Fics on FF.net, guys!)

My apologies, but I've shifted over the years from automatically mocking the "fanbrats" to regarding the more "enlightened" fans with as much suspicion as their simpler counterparts. There's an awful damn lot of talking down to female fans when male fans are let off with a smile and a wink, for one.
--

I also note sullenly that the Rooting For The Empire page looks an awful lot like the Draco In Leather Pants page from the other side of the strawman. Take that as you will.
Though it does have at least one wonderful quote.
"[...] Twilight features the three tracker vampires who are trying to kill Bella, which is seen by some as a sympathetic aim. "

And this linked page (http://flyingmoose.org/tolksarc/theories/arag_arw.htm) has one very amusing quote:
"How would you react if the descendent of Charlemagne showed up in Paris today to claim kingship over France, bringing in the shroud of Turin as the evidence?"

--

TL;DR - TV Tropes is at its best when people aren't opining on things, since it's not exactly objective, despite all pretenses. Fortunately, I was mainly on TV Tropes to read through the Yandere page... :D Wish there were more examples of two-way yanderes, but I suppose one has to do that oneself.

And a complaint about the "low self-esteem" explanation of narcissism...

I have no doubt that most narcissists have incredibly low self-esteem.

However, this is not the CAUSE of the condition. It is a SYMPTOM.

If your greatest dream were to be an athlete but you frequently lost running matches with eleven-year-olds, you would have low self-esteem. If your greatest dream were to be masterful calculator but you failed every math exam you ever had, you would have low self-esteem. If your greatest dream was to be filthy stinking rich but you went a hundred thousand dollars into debt, you would have low self-esteem.

So if you wanted to be a master of your domain, a living demigod, a being that made all around you tremble and despair, but you still got chewed out by your boss, had most people respond "...No?" to Do You Know Who I Am, and found yourself being regarded with contempt by McDonald's clerks...

...Is it really not obvious why many narcissists live in a festering soup of rage, humiliation, and unhappiness?

If you have any doubts, please observe what happens to people with narcissistic tendencies when they attain unquestioned power and influence. Low self-esteem? What low self-esteem? DARE YOU SUGGEST THAT THE LIVING GOD EVER EXPERIENCES A MOMENT OF FOOLISH MORTAL DOUBT?

I nitpick about this because misunderstanding the nature of the predator is a fast-track to becoming prey. And this is a misunderstanding so common that it's taken as gospel. That generates a lot of prey.

Complaint about another meme going around on Tumblr:

(Yes, I know I just shouldn't be stupid enough to go browsing around the Tumblrs of people heavily into SJWing. Sorry. I've been away from an internet connection with enough capacity to handle Tumblr's constant picspam for long enough that I've forgotten the obvious.)

If a guy starts saying what you are doing is reverse sexist, he is obviously threatened by what you are doing. He’s threatened because he thinks there are only two ways to be: powerful or powerless. He assumes you asserting you rights is a way to take power away from him. He assumes you wanna “switch places” with him. He knows you get treated like shit and he knows he gets advantages from your imposed inferiority. He’s fearing REVENGE, girlfriend. His fear of “reverse sexism” is basically an admitation on his part that he knows you get treated like shit and does not want to switch places with you.
Bikini Kill “Girl Power” zine (via sissypunks)

*pinches nose* Speaking as someone with an obsession with power dynamics... this is ridiculous.
...How, exactly, is not wanting to be mistreated fundamentally incompatible with not wanting OTHERS to be mistreated? I'm sincerely confused. )

And I know I'm supposed to be on hiatus, sorry, but I had to speak up. I've hit that point in Tumblr SJW-observation that it's become less a matter of pointing-and-laughing and more a matter of being deeply creeped out.

HabitRPG, I ask very little from you.

Not freezing every time I click a button is one of the things I ask.

I'm going to just have to run this thing in Internet Explorer so I can do OTHER things in Firefox. All I can say is that I'm glad it didn't hold the days I was gone against me. That's arguably a bug, but... it's not like I'm about to complain.

Though I'm probably going to have to quit when I go elsewhere, because I don't know how much bandwidth its defective scripts are chewing up.
*facepalm* It literally froze while just scrolling up in the chat. Well, okay... maybe it's just having issues because it got an influx of new users from the podcast. However, from the bottom of my ad-hating little heart, I would willingly accept ads at this point so it didn't freeze up for >5 seconds whenever I clicked anything. D|

It used to be incredibly fast, so I'm not sure why it's... gone down the drain. Anyway, I've updated myself, so I'll go away for a bit. Maybe its errors will work themselves out once they upgrade servers or somesuch.

One behavior that would be REALLY great never to see in SJW circles again:

Privileged Person: Look at me! Look at me! Look at meeeeee, merrily wallowing in utter lack of forethought, consideration for others, and -
Non-Privileged Person: hello, there is an important issue affecting me, and I would thank you to pull your head out of your posterior for a second and consider your own behavior.
Privileged Person: ...YOU'RE RIGHT! Look at me, look at me, look at meeee, I'm so privileged, so very, very privileged, and I am so sorely sorry for my sins, and I am privileged, and I am privileged, and have I mentioned that I'm privileged? Because I think the REALLY important thing is to talk about how privileged I am. And we privileged people must think about our privileged selves and talk about how privileged we are and privilege, privilege, privilege. Oh, may I think about doing this, as a privileged person? And -
Non-Privileged Person: Um. That's all very nice, but can we talk about me and my issues for a -
Privileged Person: Why, YES! Let's talk about how us PRIVILEGED people are keeping you all down, and how PRIVILEGED people silence talk about you and your issues, and how we enlightened privileged people are complicit in the misdeeds of the bullying, ignorant privileged people -
Non-Privileged Person: Do you have a genuine neurological defect? I'm not being ableist - I'm deadly serious.
Privileged Person: - and how, as such, I must REPENT for my PRIVILEGE and think over how SINFUL I am as a privileged person and what AWFUL things we privileged people did and -
Non-Privileged Person: Tell me, does your LITERAL inability to think about anyone other than yourself ever present impairments in social functioning?
Privileged Person: And oh, we PRIVILEGED people must think of the little people, and deconstruct our PRIVILEGE, and I am at all times conscious of my PRIVILEGE -
Non-Privileged Person: *quietly walks away*
-----Later-----
Non-Privileged Person: *clears throat* So, concerning recent events, I would like to say -
Privileged Person: *BARGES IN* OH, YES, WE EEEEVIL PRIVILEGED PEOPLE NEED TO REPENT, REPENT I SAY, FOR OUR EVIL, FOR WE HAVE RECENTLY -
Non-Privileged Person: For fuck's sake. I'm getting a restraining order.

I am so... fucking... sick of seeing white SJWers making incessant reference to how white they are or women who fetishize romantic tension between conventionally-attractive middle-class-or-higher white male characters acting excruciatingly self-righteous about being so enlightened as to NOTICE they fetishize romantic tension between conventionally-attractive middle-class-or-higher white male characters. For fuck's sake, stop turning every inequality issue asking people to concentrate on someone other than privileged people into an excuse for privileged people to dirty-talk to each other about how they're so awful and nasty and wrong and need to be ~punished~ - um, called out, that's the phrase..
Apologies [Grudging admission of wrongdoing] if this offended anyone. I've been guzzling caffeine today, and I get much more outspoken when I have that in my system.

*RAGE*

Welcome to 1984: US Government Employee Edition.

The techniques are a key pillar of the Insider Threat Program, an unprecedented government-wide crackdown under which millions of federal bureaucrats and contractors must watch out for “high-risk persons or behaviors” among co-workers. Those who fail to report them could face penalties, including criminal charges.
[...]
Federal employees and contractors are asked to pay particular attention to the lifestyles, attitudes and behaviors – like financial troubles, odd working hours or unexplained travel – of co-workers as a way to predict whether they might do “harm to the United States.” Managers of special insider threat offices will have regular, timely, and, if possible, electronic, access” to employees’ personnel, payroll, disciplinary and “personal contact” files, as well as records of their use of classified and unclassified computer networks, polygraph results, travel reports and financial disclosure forms.
[...]
But even the government’s top scientific advisers have questioned these techniques.
Those experts say that trying to predict future acts through behavioral monitoring is unproven and could result in illegal ethnic and racial profiling and privacy violations.

“There is no consensus in the relevant scientific community nor on the committee regarding whether any behavioral surveillance or physiological monitoring techniques are ready for use at all,” concluded a 2008 National Research Council report on detecting terrorists.
[...]

Although agencies and departments are still setting up their programs, some employees already are being urged to watch co-workers for “indicators” that include stress, divorce and financial problems.
[...]

All departments and agencies involved in the program must closely track their employees’ online activities. The information gathered by monitoring, the administration documents say, “could be used against them in criminal, security, or administrative proceedings.”
[...]
“We have not found any silver bullets,” said Deana Caputo, the lead behavioral scientist at MITRE Corp., a nonprofit company working on insider threat efforts for U.S. defense, intelligence and law enforcement agencies. “We don’t have actually any really good profiles or pictures of a bad guy, a good guy gone bad or even the bad guy walking in to do bad things from the very beginning.
[...]
A report by the Deloitte consulting firm identifies “several key trends that are making all organizations particularly susceptible to insider threat today.” These trends include an increasingly disgruntled, post-Great Recession workforce and the entry of younger, “Gen Y” employees who were “raised on the Internet” and are “highly involved in social networking.”
[...]
Eric Feldman, a former inspector general of the National Reconnaissance Office, the super-secret agency that oversees U.S. spy satellites, expressed concern that relying on workers to report colleagues’ suspicious behaviors to security officials could create “a repressive kind of culture.”

“The answer to it is not to have a Stasi-like response,” said Feldman, referring to the feared secret police of communist East Germany. “You’ve removed that firewall between employees seeking help and the threat that any employee who seeks help could be immediately retaliated against by this insider threat office.”

So the government thinks we're out to get them, even though they admit to not knowing what the heck a "bad guy" looks like in the first place, and they think it's perfectly permissible to set up a turn-in-your-coworkers surveillance state in their ranks. Never mind that it's probably going to be used to get revenge on coworkers far more often than it's used even for its (revolting) intended purpose in the first place, and that any spy with brains is going to get in the habit of framing coworkers in order to get a good reputation with the head honchos and throw suspicion off of himself or herself. Nope, this is totally going to solve all their problems.

Has it occurred to them that their lunatic attitudes are driving the leaks?!

Mild gripe: Not every villain is the hero of their own story.

I know people love to say this. But it's not true. It fundamentally projects a worldview of believing that one's actions are justified and that the morality of one's actions and intentions is the most important thing, which... um... Hello? This is an age in which we know about sociopaths, right?

Sociopaths know their actions are wrong. That's why they go to such extents to cover them up. They just don't give a damn. They lack that sense of moral concern that so troubles most people. Yes, they think that most people are suckers. That doesn't mean they don't understand what a 'good' person is, they just choose not to be one. Yes, they're the "heroes" of their own stories, in that they have pathetically exaggerated delusions of their own exalted status, but not in the sense that most of us think of as 'heroes'. Designated Protagonists might be a better phrase.

Likewise, yes, some people do know - or think - they're doing wrong and choose to continue on anyway. The drug addict who wants to stop, yet can't resist taking another hit - that's one. The person on a diet who can't resist 'indulging' a few dozen times too often - that's another. The person who wants access to restricted material, and isn't adverse to fudging details of their age to get it - that's yet another. On the side of thinking there's wrongdoing, there's also the closeted fundamentalist who struggles with his or her "deviant urges", the severely depressed person eaten alive by guilt for 'wasting others' time and resources' (*sigh* Can't say I'm over that so much as I'm managing to be less of a waste...), the rebel convinced that he or she must be a horrible person for going against what is supposed to be The Moral Way To Think, yet persisting anyway...

It's ridiculously oversimplifying to say everyone is the hero of their own story. And it has no place in 'enlightened' discussions of literature and characterization. *climbs off of soapbox*

Something's BADLY off about LJ's Social Capital calculations.

Social Capital is an indicator that reflects the influence of a specific user or community on LiveJournal. Social Capital is intended to identify how active and influential a user or community is. Each account's Social Capital is based on many different criteria, including the number of users who have added the journal or community to their Friends list, and various other activity throughout the site: how old and active the account is, do they leave comments in other journals and communities, how often do they log in, and many other factors that differentiate real users from bot accounts.

Except... ah... I have Social Capital 11. Here are my stats.
  • 1,907 journal entries
  • 5,850 comments posted
  • 4,590 comments received
  • Friend of 61 [most of them gone from LJ]
Here is the almighty [livejournal.com profile] kippurbird :
  • 2,050 journal entries
  • 13,594 comments posted
  • 26,393 comments received
  • Friend of 201
Kippurbird has LESS THAN 10 SOCIAL CAPITAL.
Oh, and as far as the age? Kippurbird's account was created in 2003, mine in 2007.

What in BLAZES is going on here? What sort of insane formula could possibly give me more Social Capital than Kippurbird?

Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] a_sporking_rat  (who is hilarious), has the following stats for a rating of 14 Social Capital:
Her journal was created less than a year ago.

There's something badly wrong here. Why can't LJ make its own social-status formula work in any sensible way?

*climbs onto soapbox* Three psychopathic traits...

I would place the most important aspects of psychopathy as a lack of remorse, an absence of strong morality, and a fascination with deceit.

Why am I omitting the lack of empathy? Simple. I believe psychopathic behavior can occur in people who claim to be perfectly empathic if they have the above three traits. I also believe that psychopathic behavior will not occur in people with low empathy who are remorseful, moral, and honest. True, it's in one's best interests to practice the "Locks keep honest men honest" attitude around them. But they don't pose dangers in the way that those with the above three traits do.

--
The three points. )
--

As a final note, it's sufficient for "empathic" people to have the first two traits to render them capable of some of the least empathic behavior you'll stumble across, luck permitting. The fascination with deceit, however, seems to be what enables psychopaths to deal massive amounts of damage.

Spork Commentary on (Thanfiction) Amy Player’s “Apology Letter”

Unkind? Perhaps. But as it recently went off the Web Archive – and had to be retrieved from screencaps – and I have a ScrapBook backup of the page, I figured now’s as good a time as any.
For the kind-hearted on my f-list, I would like to point out the following:
1 – Thanfiction is a master manipulator. In my politically-incorrect opinion, this is how he manages to get such a fanbase when he sets up shop in a fandom – if writing is, in part, selling your story to the reader, then whoo boy does he have an M.A. in selling stories. As such, if you get drawn in? That’s not because the truth is so compelling, it’s because he’s an expert in making it sound as compelling as possible. I’ll be unpacking his tricks as I go, but still. Do not suspend your disbelief.
2 – He’s known to incorporate elements from others’ stories. So if something rings true to you – does it ring true because it originated with him, or because he knew someone who’d actually gone through something similar very well?
3 – Most importantly in this poor-pitiful-repressed-FTM narrative – Thanfiction’s preferred targets are WELL-KNOWN to be vulnerable, naïve, and somewhat immature young women. And how is he presenting himself here? As a pooooor vulnerable, naïve, and somewhat immature young woman (who turned out to be a desperately angsty and troubled young man straight out of cliché fanfiction). Gee, what a coinkydink. Particularly when it comes to adding those lovely touches of authenticity to your seminal memoir of loss, lunacy, and self-discovery.

So if you say “there but for the grace of God go I” – noooo. And, I repeat, I’ll be explaining why as I go.

To Whom It May Concern
You have known me as Amy Player, as Strwriter, as Voyagerbabe, VB, Victoria Bitter, Mr. Frodo, and Jordan Wood.
I hear he’s leaving out “Merry Brandybuck” and “Orlando Bloom” from that list, at the very least…

~*~*~*~How to Write a Sympathetic Psychopath~*~*~*~

For all your glamorization-of-mass-murder needs! :D

Heeeeeere's Johnny! (Trigger warning for thinly-veiled commentary about emotional abuse and abusive behavior.) )

Yeah, I... well... No, I don't think it's that time of the month. This was probably set off by my thinking about emotional manipulation earlier. ...I don't like being manipulated. And I don't like people excusing unforgivable behavior with emotional justifications. And...

Well, finally, a confession of the ***other*** half of what gets me about woobiefication. That was cathartic. )

...Sorry. Sorry. Maybe it is that time of the month. One final statement.

It's not funny. It's not harmless fantasy. It's the philosophy that rules some people's lives.

Reading a forum...

Well, well. Turns out I'm not the only one who suffered side-effects for over two years after stopping Yasmin.

Oh, boy, time for another 'Let's Vilify Social Networking!' article...

Can Facebook lead to psychosis? One study says so
Researchers at the University of Tel Aviv say social networking can have seriously deleterious effects on the psyche.

Well, that's dramatic. Let's see what was actually found.
Mainly bears defecating in the woods, social networking being treated as THE ONLY ADDICTIVE THING EVER, and arrogant generalizations. And this was written for a TECH site. *facepalm* )

guardians_song: A snark on if Cori Falls had been in the Fire Emblem fandom. (Cori Falls)

Gripe:

I'm getting mildly annoyed with people who get their jollies off of mocking one author, then turn right around and act scandalized at someone thinking anything but the world of an author they like.

I mock badfic. I also understand that things I like aren't exempt, and I have to either admit that the criticism is valid but I like the story anyway, or mentally deconstruct the mistaken aspects of the criticism. I cannot understand how anyone can tear a bad author down one moment and then act sanctimonious about how entitled fans are picking on some poor widdle author the next moment.

This isn't over Das Sporking, in case anyone's wondering (though this gripe somewhat applies to them as well, which is why I'm not crossposting) - it's about the Amazon snark-board for Laurell K. Hamilton's rubbish going full-blown HMS-STFU about the horrible awful terrible Sookie Stackhouse fandom, who have - *GASP* - dared to become very, very unhappy about the resolution for the final book.

Because it's not like the LKH anti-fandom is, being charitable, half trainwreck-watchers along for the ride and half disappointed ex-fans who have gone from rage to disgust to disappointment to pure trolly enjoyment over the last eight years.

Seriously. Of all the people to preach about backlash over an author's plotline choices...

(Clarification: I'm not angry - I'm just rolling my eyes. Talk about ignoring the multinational billion-dollar logging company in your own eye...)

I haaate essays.

There is likely a realm of eternal torment devoted to being told to make minor revisions with little point, revert half of them, add a word here, take out a word there, add more fluff, now add more content, now remove the fluff, now you don't need that much content...

*%#@!!!

(Note to English majors or former English majors: If you don't mind that, your torment will instead be doing complicated accounting work for eternity. Without calculators, computers. or any other sort of computational aid. :B)

guardians_song: A sprite edit of Nils from Fire Emblem, looking shocked: CHRISTMAS EDITION (Nils)

SOMETHING'S busted with the new Codecademy profile.

Not that it really matters, but... uh, guys? I am QUITE certain I last made progress on the Python track less than 24 days ago.

Bah. I think I'm beginning to understand how the LiveJournal old-timers feel about nonsensical changes that make things worse, but fortunately I'm into this site for the content, not the presentation.

In unrelated news, I am getting highly tempted to create a Mad Libs program to write fellowship essays. I mean, I'd drive myself mad doing the JQuery for each little possibility, but it would be less tedious than writing the actual essay...
'In summary, your honor, I sparkle in the sunlight and ejaculate rainbows. Give me a splendiferous amount of money with which I may fund my exploration of hugging bunnies, tiptoeing through the tulips, and painting with all the colors of the wind.'
Well, not really, but you know the feeling...
