James: Well, there's my collection of fine designer dresses...
I SHOULD HAVE USED THAT!

Considering the constant bestial undertones in this fic, Jerry... D:
XD I'm sorry, I just can't resist the furry jokes. After How James Got His Mojo Back, I am permanently justified.

Jesus, Cori, just rename this "Team Rocket: The Afterschool Special" and be done with it! D:
XD I essentially have, so she didn't have to. (Because good gad, I appreciate that sometimes you want to redo a premise with your favorite characters inserted, but she should have at least admitted it.)

...Come to think of it, she kind of did. I've been reading the title as "Family Matters" as in "This is a family matter", but she might have meant it as "Family Matters" as in "Family matters, so appreciate yours". In which case... yeeeah, total Aesop Of This Episode title, so she kind of did warn the readers. I just didn't get it. :P

Ever hear of casual sex, Cori? Friends with benefits? These things aren't necessarily the devil as long as some degree of respect is involved.
NOT IN CORILAND. Everyone must be in the truest of true loves.

And wow, the double standard re: Jessiebelle vs Jessie stinks something rotten. Jessiebelle is a horrible person and she'd be a shitty mother, but Jessie isn't the angel Cori says she is. (And yeah, James lists the horrible mother thing as ONE of the reasons but he always glosses over the torture. SHE CHASED YOU AND BEAT YOU WITH WHIPS, JAMES. THAT'S NOT JUST PUSHING YOU IN THE MUD AND CALLING YOU FARTY-PANTS.)
Yeah, the double standard is, as I've said, probably worthy of an analysis from 'the patriarchy hurts men too' perspective. Because Jessie's female, her abuse by her ex is taken seriously; because James is a man, the abuse he's received from women is treated as a secondary consideration. It's... very sad.

Kid: Mom, Dad, can I borrow 20 bucks for a slurpee?
Jessie: No! We need that money to pay for another month on our shack!
James: And since when do slurpees cost 20 bucks?
Kid: I was gonna get a large!

I know this isn't what you meant, but I imagined poor Team Rocket being stuck in a shack so run-down that the RENT was 20 bucks a month. XD D:

EXACTLY. This is the reason I side-eye the whole "we'll never repeat our parents' awful awful mistakes, we'll break the cycle". It's a noble concept and I suppose it CAN be a thing that happens, but in this case? We're talking about an unstable young woman with rage issues and a man browbeaten by his parent to the point where he thinks it's okay for said young woman to abuse him because she's so ~twagic~. Their kids aren't gonna turn out well-adjusted angels, they're gonna turn out fucking basket cases.
PRECISELY. Just because Jessie and James are going to create a DIFFERENT dysfunctional, abusive home environment than that in which either of them grew up doesn't mean it will be any less dysfunctional or abusive!

Y'know, Henry from FE Awakening turned out to be an awesome dad despite having shitty parents and he doesn't spew this much sap about it.
though some members of the fandom seem to wish he would
That's because Henry is awesome~! And these things don't bother him as much, nyeh heh heh~

...somehow I never thought of this as the other side of the emotions coin anytime I ranted about people who think showing emotion is weak and stupid and wrong. :/ But you're absolutely right. Because some people take it too far and think their feelings give them the authority to say or do whatever they want and that's just as shitty as insisting people suppress their emotions.

Or is this that "nobody is allowed to have feelings except for ME!" thing we discussed ages ago? XD;

Both, really. Because I really don't see many abusive types who justify their actions with 'But my FEELS!' who respect that, by their logic, other people are allowed to act because FEELS too. People who respect that tend to be not abusive or at least able to rein in their abusive tendencies when actual people get hurt. For the abusive types, there's always SOME excuse as to why their FEEELS and ONLY their FEEEELS, count. (Oh sure, they can hand-wave as to 'Well, in [X] situation, my FEEEELSs would be less important than [Y]'s FEEEELS', but in practice they either keep faaaar away from that situation or come up with a fresh new excuse as to why their FEELS count as far more important in this specific sub-circumstance than the other person's FEELS. :\
I think similar pathologies underlie all abusive personalities. All the seeming variation comes from the varying methods they use to justify themselves.

Ahahaha, poor Tom and Jerry. But to be fair you're not the only Rocketshipper/Neoshipper who's done that. XD;
I know I'm not. Apparently Cori has too. T_T
Mixing genetics is a common anime/video game trope. (Robin/Sumia had two adorable asskickers, one with daddy's coat and mommy's hair color and default class, and one with daddy's hair and mommy's everything else. XD)
Morgan is just reproduction-via-budding. XD Grima the komodo dragon! See, it even explains how a female Avatar could produce a male Morgan on her own!

But yeah... Tom's actually got Cassidy's hair color and bristliness and a generic parted-on-the-side hairstyle, but he otherwise looks like his dad. Jerry's the straight mix with James's hairstyle. Just her luck Cori hit upon the same idea.

Also Cori? BABIES DON'T WORK THAT WAY. kthx
You mean babies AREN'T perfect angels? Shock! Horror! Chagrin! But TEAM ROCKET'S would be!

Strange that Cori would do Clean Pretty Childbirth here when in the "James gets an Articuno" fic she (iirc) describes the baby birds hatching with fluid and bits of shell still stuck to them.
In all fairness, those are birds, not Our Perfect Team Rocket. And Cori had some sort of hang-up on HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST ELEPHANTS HATCH FROM EGGS, so she may have had some weird animal biology background that made her insist upon certain kinds of realism for animals, but no corresponding background for humans. *shrugs* Cori is weirdly in touch with reality in some fics and completely out of touch in others. As I've noted, she isn't DUMB. She just clings to an utterly idealized depiction of Jessie and James for... whatever reason.

Town: We would, but Cori has this rule against Earth Logic.
XD

And...as much as I loathe to admit it, Jessie does have a valid reason to angst here. Team Rocket IS canonically a risky lifestyle and they've gotten their asses kicked so many times. But it's still done in such a glurgey manner cause CORI.
Yeah, that's the thing. I actually hesitated about objecting there because it's the sanest I've ever seen her depiction of the trio. Saner than canon, really. This premise? Could be worked into a reasonable and logical fic about Jessie and James leaving Team Rocket.

But it's... not... exactly... done... in... a... reasonable... way...

Of course there is! :D Because dreams mean everything in Corific!
XD They'd give Ninian a run for her money!

James: At least Cori provides decent meals. And the food is usually fresh. Except I do get tired of French Toast for breakfast every day! I miss my Fruit Loops!
Jessie: Stuff it! We're getting reliable food for the first time in years! Don't complain!

((Fun fact: in the mental Zombie Outbreak AU where Cori-appears-as-a-character-Jessie-and-James-save-from-certain-death, I've considered having James burst into tears in the middle of Team Rocket's horrified browsing of her ensuing 'romantic smash hit of the summer' and have the conversation go something like this:
Jessie: What's wrong with you, James?!
Meowth: Is her writin' of us dat bad?
James: N-no! It's that... we eat... all this FOOD in this book! I - *rendered incoherent by crying*
I - I almost wouldn't mind acting like this if we got three square meals a da-aa-a-ay...
Meowth: He's lost it.
Jessie: *stomach growling* Hm, actually, that's a good point... Say, James, is she looking to have anyone play 'Jim' and 'Jessica' in a film adaptation of the book?
Meowth: Not you too!))

And yeah, the lack of logic with the electricity is...um...
*snort* A physicist or biologist, Cori ain't.

Cori!TR: But but...WE NEED TO CAPTURE PIKACHU! WE HAVE NO CHOICE! THE BOSS WILL BEAT US IF WE DON'T!
Cori: Nope! He has a secret soft for for you for Reasons and is secretly a Rocketshipper. But you don't get to find out until I snap and throw canon in the garbage.

XD Maybe Giovanni is the avatar of a Sims 2 player? "Team Rocket" is just his pet Asylum Challenge (with ACR turned on in Coriverse) and he's rooting for Jessie and James to get out alive with the cat!

Cori x Inconsistency = OTP!
Theirloveissopureandtrue

Silver: Uh, Dad? Are you sure giving these jokers money is a good idea?
Giovanni: Son, when you inherit this organization someday you'll realize it's worth a small financial setback just to get rid of melodramatic idiots.

Silver: But -
Giovanni: Besides, after their constant losses, everyone will think we're about as tough as L5 Magikarps. It will give anyone going up against the Executives a... pleasant level curve.

The sad thing is, Jessie and James have a sensible idea in quitting a dangerous job for the sake of their kid. But Cori's handling of it is...really, really dumb.
This fic might have been the most plausible if A) she didn't cop out at the end and B) she'd actually handled it seriously. As is, it's... half-surprisingly reasonable and half-totally moronic. :|
