It's possible that this is one of those seeing-is-believing types of details. It's not exactly hard to find nature videos that show birds hatching from eggs, but Cori almost certainly had spent little if any time around newborn babies at the time she was writing (do we know if she ever had any children at all?), so she might not have made the connection that "birds are born covered in fluids"="all animals are born covered in fluids." I dunno--was (say) baby Ash described with more realism ever?
