Got through Pokemon Tower.
Aaaand off to catch me a Snorlax before my Pokemon get too overleveled.
Snorlax successfully captured.
Now, here's the deal. I do NOT have an Electric-type yet. I have a Water-type, a Water/Flying-type (who may or may not accompany me to endgame - mercifully, Nintendo did not put many Electric-type users in Gen 1), a Normal/Flying-type, a Bug/Flying-type, a Normal-type, and a Ground-type. The Butterfree is admittedly a capture-focused Pokemon, and will likely be replaced by a beefier creature come Elite Four. (Sorry, Monarch!)
The Water-type will stay come hell-or-high-water, being my starter and all, and Gyarados may be a counter to the flimsy-but-fast Psychics. Since Gary has an Alakazam, this is valuable. Now, IF I DO NOT HAVE ROOM FOR AN ELECTRIC USER, Gyarados can learn Thunderbolt, and so IT will be my "Electric-type".
Only problem is that half my team is then weak to Electricity (ASSUMING Monarch gets punted), so I have to be VERY careful to have Reservoir outspeed Dragonite. Bastard has Thunder, doesn't it?
...
...
WHAT?
*just checked Serebii* It DOESN'T?
...Good gad. That's incredible. The only member of the original Elite Four (INCLUDING the Champion) with a SINGLE Electric attack is BRUNO, and he sports the low-Special Hitmonchan wielding Thunderpunch.
...For fuuuuuck's sake. They REALLY upgraded them in Yellow. Not in level, but certainly in having even the SLIGHTEST idea what a 'moveset' was.
(Hahahaha, oh gad, that is just fucking nightmarish. Dragonite covers Ice, Fire, Lightning, and everything-via-Hyper-Beam. It literally has supereffective hits on all Ice Beam users save Mew, Chansey, Clefable, Kangaskhan, Lickitung, Raticate, and Snorlax. Chansey gets murdered by Hyper Beam, so your best choice [Special-wise] that isn't Mew is CLEFABLE. I... eh heh heh, DANG, that's nasty.
...Feck, that ALSO doesn't work, since Yellow doesn't allow you to buy a Clefairy at the Game Corner. Given that a Yellow Nuzlocke couldn't rely on catching Safari Pokemon? Your choices are Raticate and SNORLAX. Let's see, of these two Pokemon - which is SIGNIFICANTLY bulkier, and ALSO has a move to increase Special in order to set up to sweep?
...Okay, so if I can get Snorlax in Yellow and keep it alive? It will be my Lance-killer. Good to know.)
NEVER MIND! :D I can afford my pathetically unbalanced team in the final rounds. I just... I mean... damn. That's all but BEGGING you to use Gyarados on Red-and-Blue!Elite Four.
EDIT:
In Silph. Co right now.
Swore heart skipped a beat when Yulong dropped down to 9 HP courtesy of a hit from a Hypno after a confusion-turn.
Confusers, hypnotizers, and poisoners actually MORE dangerous than the heavy-hitters and the self-destruct monsters. (It helps to a hilarious extent that the self-destructers are weak to Ground, this being before Levitate, so Dig will have one of two effects:
1) Allows dodge of Self-Destruct. Enemy goes down.
2) OHKOs enemy before it can use Self-Destructed. Enemy goes down.
You've really got to wonder if the designers intended that gimmick and are *wink-wink-nudge-nudge*-ing the player forward to using Digspam to handle that "puzzle" dynamic.)
