(Seriously, Blaine is a ludicrous steamroll in the making. They give you a dungeon full of Fire-types and Poison-types to grind upon RIGHT NEXT DOOR? One with a bleeping ridiculous encounter rate? Oh, no, that isn't going to make things easy... :P)
...Dear Giovanni? You're supposed to stay awake for the entire battle, not get OHKOed for five Pokemon straight. :D Now, time to grind for -

You have GOT to be kidding me.
His highest Pokemon is WHAT level?
Screw this. I'm giving Reservoir and Yulong their Ice Beam and Thunderbolt TMs NOW, and, after grinding everyone to L43, going to take Yulong on a grand tour of the Pallet-Cinnabar Swimmers that I evaded all the way there. Come on, my over-leveled starter is L50, and his is L53? So much for skill - he obviously got to his position by grinding.
[Second Route 22 Battle with Rival]
...****ING *****! **** THIS, I'M GRINDING JUST FOR THAT DAMN ALAKAZAM, COME ELITE FOUR TIME!
No causalities, but the baseline for E4 grinding is going to be L52, five levels below that DAMNED Alakazam. Because forget about his Venusaur - if THAT thing gets a foot in the door, it can and WILL wipe my party. L50 Blastoise couldn't handle it at L50 because of critical Psychics, and L45 Gyarados barely managed it. You know something? If not for Yulong, I would have racked up causalities by now.
...And I'm skipping Moltres for now, because I need to status it. Fortunately, I figured out a way around its wretched supereffectiveness against my Bug/Flying and Grass/Poison status-junkies... (Hint, hint - Thunder Wave TM.) Now, I just have to hope I worked out the Damage Formula correctly.
...On second thought, turns out Raticate doesn't learn Thunder Wave through TMs until Gen IV. Sorry, Wormtail - time to take Klakarton out of the box on a little excursion...
