Exited Port of Badon with Level 20 Raven, Level 20 Guy, Level 10 Lucius, and Level 10 Canas.
Rebecca didn't get to go in the Arena once. D|
Current "Pirate Ship" strategy: Huddle behind Hector and Oswin for first few turns and try not to get the damn Glass Cannons Rebecca and Lucius killed off. On... fourth or so run right now, due to getting Rebecca and Lucius repeatedly killed off in the first few turns. =________=;; Good HEAVENS, they are flimsy.
Execute Operation 'Fetal Position', everybody.
Also - FFS, HECTOR, DO NOT KILL OFF THE ELYSIAN WHIP PEG. KNIGHT! DAMNED IF I'M GOING TO LET A GOOD PROMOTION ITEM GO TO WASTE IN HHM!
Eliwood, just go stand around looking pretty. I THINK I'm going to get you some EXP, but I may have to reconsider. Frankly, your CURRENT helpfulness consists of standing around and radiating your B support with Hector.
...Make that fifth run. Matthew just got... molested by three Peg. Knights at once.
Screw this, I'm taking away his weapons. He's a lover-not-a-fighter anyway, and he can't be... bodice-ripped by lance-users if he's not wielding a sword in the first place.
Eliwood, radiate that B support like you're effing married. B-support him like this is a hardcore Hector/Eliwood slash fic.
WHAT THE HELL? WHAT THE HELL? WHAT THE HELL?
Sixth run. I HAAATE PEG. KNIGHTS. I need to shield BOTH Rebecca AND Lucius from having more than ONE angle of attack open on them at all times. And just when I thought I was past the gangbang turn, too.
Seventh. Merlinus was used successfully as a decoy last run. Interesting data point: OSWIN needs to be holding a Vulnerary at all times. OSWIN.
I'm also giving him two Javelins for shits and giggles. This will either make no difference whatsoever or lead to his making the entire cluster**** of Shamans and Archers his bitches.
*pause* Weeell. Survey says "bitches". How nice.
WHAT THE HELL. WHO THOUGHT THE ASSHOLE WITH THE LANCEREAVER WAS A FUNNY IDEA?
The asshole who critical'd with a Lancereaver, that is. Back to square one...
Run #8. Rebecca, you're a total embarrassment. Bartre will take over. BARTRE.
Guy, go stonewall with your uberdodge and WTF CRITICAL skills.
...Wait, I forgot to give Oswin a Javelin. D| Crap.
Double crap, Lucius killed a Peg. Knight on a counterattack and then got reamed by the next Peg. Knight. RUN NUMBER NINE!
(Yes. I really, REALLY am bad at this game. It's... It's really bad.)
Run #9. Forgot to replace Rebecca with Bartre. Well, let's give her a chance, see how badly she screws up this round.
Both Hector and Oswin have been given Vulneraries in an attempt to make them Priscilla-independent. I only have eight characters allowed. Was Pirate Ship this constrained in regular HNM?
The... hilarious asshoe with a Lancereaver met a painful and ignomonius end. Turns out Mercenaries with Lancereavers shouldn't stand in the range of an irate Hector. Isn't that such a shocker?
AW, ****. Oswin died to a mass Shaman storm.
Still. Learned that Rebecca IS worth her salt, that the Vulnerary method does work, and that Swordsman Guy can do ridiculous and unholy things when used as a temporary melee wall.
Tenth attempt. Oswin got a DEF and RES level-up - that's good, that's very good.
Hilarious asshole with Lancereaver received a hilarious Silver Axe to the face.
Speaking of hilarity, when will Peg. Knights learn NOT to attack Swordmasters? Not that I'm complaining, but...

If you meant the shamans - too many Javelins mean a ship piled high with Shaman corpses. >8D
I remember from my one Hector Normal Mode experience that promoted!Guy was ESSENTIAL in killing Kishuna. (He could both hit the creature AND critical it. I NEEDED that.) So Guy - there was never any question of Guy coming along on this playthrough. Plus, HOLY CRIPES, he could effectively wall the enemies because of his dodging capabilities. I literally held the Shamans off for SEVERAL TURNS by placing Swordmaster Guy as elder-magic bait while Lucius and Matthew tiptoed around the Peg. Knights' movement ranges. And he did similar things while I was breaking the stair-traps at the top of the ship. I think Arena-Abuse!Guy is going to be the local Nino for several more chapters...

WOW. @_@ I never thought to bring a promoted unit other than Oswin, since everyone else needs EXP at this point and I like to divvy it up. But I might have to take a page from your book and bring promoted!Guy along next time I go for chapter 19xx in Hector mode.

Would be nice for Canas, though. *cough*

Well - I'm an inveterate Arena Abuser, and so Guy always CAN get promoted by that point for me. >_> Even in Hector Hard Mode, he gets on decently with the Arena - if you can be patient enough to keep canceling until he gets bets in the 600s/low-700s, he'll kill around half the foes without even taking damage (!!!). [Yes, he'll have to surrender every now and then, but he's certainly better about it than Raven.]
It's just that it's SO HARD to kill Kishuna (since you're forced to use only melee damage-dealers, half of which he dodges) that Guy comes in really handy at that point. At least, I think he did for me. :P

I play on an emulator so cancelling never comes up. I just save state abuse. XD
Oh God, Kishuna is a pain in the ass. I always bring along the Killing Edge and the lords' personal weapons and just surround the guy with my most accurate and strongest fighters along with their support partners. It takes a LOT of reloading, though.

Ah, can he? Lucius is really effective this time, so I just used him. :P *LUCIUS SMASH PUNY SHAMANS*
I... don't have an emulator. Unless you count a battered DS as a GBA emulator, which it technically is... 8D;; I... imagine Arena Abusing gets MUCH less heart-pounding when one wrong move doesn't lead to having to reset to the start of the mission. :D;; That'd also be why I have such bad memories of Kishuna, though. Having to replay the level if I don't dish out enough damage to him in a single turn... Oi...
So yeah. Beating Kishuna without reloading. Makes one appreciate the local Swordmaster. >_>;;

Aah. XD;; I never owned the game right out, when I decided to try it out I had to download it. So I've become spoiled by savestates. XD;

It's a... er... different game without savestates. What I would have given to have an "Undo" button during some of the recent Pirate Ship runs. >_

I managed to get as far as chapter 12 in FE8 on a regular GBA. Then I tried to arena whore and had to reset, and then people kept dying.

You need to take only the 600-690 and low-700s bets. Those are either survivable or are slow-paced enough that you can start mashing B.
Besides, in FE8, you have the advantage that you can go fight monsters between chapters. ;) It's better than the Arena, in some ways. Say what you will about the monsters, but at least they'll never be Level 20 Pirates with Silver Axes or whatnot. :P

Yeah, this is true. However, arenas also give cash. XD So there's good and bad there.

Canas will have to level-up on Imprisoner of Magic, f'r instance...
