Allergies are infernal creations of... somethingruther.
In cheerier news, the Shining Force mage-run is steamrolling the opposition, and I could probably beat the final chapters with my current team. Only stall right now is grinding up Alef, Torasu, and *pained wince* Adam. The latter is less of a unit and more of a sustained trolling attempt by the developers.
The pertinent points:
A) He's a robot!
B) He's a robot with less Attack than the mages of equivalent level.
C) He cannot equip weapons.
D) He has 4 Move, so you can't even really give him the Power Ring unless you really plan on having stronger units stall for him...
E) He comes at level 10, when ideal promotion is at 20.
F) He comes in the very late-game (midway through Chapter 7/8).
However, I've committed to using certain units, so I'll use him. And then I can brag that I've actually used Adam, and I'll never have to use him again. 8D *TWITCH*
Okay, now for the less whiny information.
Anri is the best mage in the game for damage-dealing, with Domingo surpassing her at defense/mobility. Kalkin's free Bolt L2 from the Sword of Light makes him an equally good damage dealer while it lasts, and Arthur is pretty much a walking tank once he goes past 20/15 and his HP goes above 70.
Tao is sadly mediocre as a mage (Noooo :( ), and Gong is similarly wonky as a healer/fighter. Bleu is finally a solidly above-average unit... took him long enough. *grumble*
You'll notice that the characters are ridiculously overleveled. 'Tis the price of grinding, unfortunately. You may be amused to learn that Anri has 73 MP... She's come a long way from her relatively-weak starting days. I guess she's the Mage-equivalent of Arthur.
Lesson here: If you need Adam as a party member, you won't by the time you've gotten him to 20/1. That, and the mages in Shining Force are seriously overpowered if you raise them high enough. Live and learn, I guess.
Individual points:
* Anri's Freeze L4 is a long-range bomb that can take out most any single unit - so far. I'm pretty sure that doesn't hold later, but it's an awesome force now. Her Bolt L2 (!!!) also allows her to dish out major pain to a wide spectrum of enemies, so she and Alef are musts for turning cluster****s into hilarity.
* Arthur was very slow for a while, but regained his awesomeness in the last few level-ups. He seems pretty RNG-proof. With the Valkyrie equipped (since he's the only possible user on this run), he's yet another OHKO machine.
* Tao gained 11 Agility in one level. Twice. O________O
** Unfortunately, she has range 2, and Anri, Alef, and Domingo have range 3. As does Kalkin, due to his Sword of Light/upcoming Chaos Breaker.
* Bleu is... solidly middle-of-the-pack here. As Kalkin and Arthur are strong attackers, he's not notable so far.
* The Vicars have all fallen behind due to their stat-upper magics being more useful than their healing at the moment. Yes, you can blame Adam for that.
* Domiiiiiiingo! *squeal* Always my flawless bait. I have never fangirled so hard over a floating-jellyfish cryomancer.
** ...Not that I've had many opportunities to fangirl over anything matching that description.
* I miss Guntz, but I have to say... I don't miss many members of my prior party. Perhaps Kokichi, but certainly not Gort, Luke, Mae, Ken, or the like. And it's not because they're bad units - it's because Shining Force has no such thing as magic resistance. :D This is life with infinite Luna charges, Fire Emblem players! Mwahahaha!
As a note - my ease-of-play could NOT be duplicated on the remake, as that game introduced Magic Resistance. And seeing as how I've been living off of magic... Ah dear. No. But it's been fun.
Party members: Kalkin (20/12 Hero), Arthur (20/18 Paladin), Anri (20/18 Wizard), Alef (20/1 Wizard), Tao (20/8 Wizard), Domingo (23/NA Magic Creature), Lowe (20/6 Vicar), Khris (20/4 Vicar), Torasu (20/1 Vicar), Gong (20/11 Master Monk), Bleu (20/11 Guardian Dragon), Adam (17/0 Robot)
