In more nostalgic thoughts...
Since I probably won't write any more FE7 fics for a while, might as well list some fanon organizations I had running in some AUs.
The Ilian Vigil
An Ilian nationalist group that showed up only in AUs where Aenir was resurrected or had never died, instead being mostly dead (and comatose) in some Dragon Temple à la Jahn's excuse for surviving the Scouring.
Leader: Aenir.
Goals: To organize and aid the Ilian people, to kill any bandits, and to defend its borders against any invaders (such as Bern soldiers, Morphs, etc.).
Insignia: A stylized depiction of Ilia's mountains.
Primary Units: Pegasus Knights, what else?
Notes: They're a benevolent nationalist group, as things go, being subservient to a charitable pacifist. Their rise, however, does worry people who wonder exactly what all Ilia's mercenary corps could do if formed into a single army...
The Last Morphs
Those Morphs who outlived their creator.
Leader: Generic Morphs specializing in magic, who were given slightly more intelligence than their brute-force fellows.
Goals: Unknown. Some mindlessly gather quintessence in hit-and-run attacks upon innocent populations, trying to imitate their master, while others seek to just exist in isolation and determine what in the world they should do with their de facto deity dead.
Insignia: None. They're rather identifiable just from their features alone.
Primary Units: None in particular. A good chunk of them are probably the Victory or Death reinforcements assuming that the heroes beat Limstella in 20 turns or less and went on to The Value of Life.
Notes: A very interesting concept that I actually would like to use in original-fic if I could ever file off the serial numbers. Really, you could base an entire book around that alone.
The Black Fang (ALTERNATE)
The Black Fang in a cheap-excuse-plot AU where the Lycian Civil War occurred five years earlier and the organization, intervening after Pherean refugees started limping across the border after Laus's conquest of the territory, found itself with a massive amount of popular support and wannabe followers. Unfortunately, it still got corrupted by Sonia...
Leader: Brendan Reed. However, Linus, being the lunatic who first hauled a bunch of assassins into a full-fledged war, is dearly loved by many in Lycia's more war-ravaged territories; Lloyd, possessed of a cooler head and more refined technique, is informally regarded as the leader of the Fang's elite. And we all know Sonia controls Brendan...
Goals: Originally a Robin-Hood-esque group of assassins, its popular following has caused schisms in the exact goals of the Black Fang. Some hold to its original goals, while Lycian-influenced members advocate the overthrow of all nobles because they could become corrupt, Bern-influenced members advocate finding truly virtuous potential-rulers (such as Prince Zephiel) and resorting to any means necessary to give them absolute power, and Eturian-influenced members advocate transforming the Fang into a "divinely-guided" strike-force. (Meanwhile, Ilian-influenced members, as well as many of the Lycian-influenced members, argue that the Fang's primary goal should be to educate and aid the needy before even thinking of doing anything complicated.)
And then, of course, there are the corrupt Sonia-ruled members...
Insignia: Four stylized fangs set in a pair of jaws, done in solid black. ...That is, unless they have a canon insignia that I forgot about, in which case it's that. :D;;
Primary Units: Noneunless it's a HHM!AU, in which case Wyvern Riders, Wyvern Riders, and Wyvern Riders
Notes: ...Yeah, they were the primary focus of this AU, how did you ever guess? D|
Anyway, for clarification, Ostia was unable to give much aid to a good deal of the war-ravaged territories after winning the war with Laus, as they were more focused on shoring up their own might to discourage an invasion from Bern. As a result, the Black Fang stayed around to aid the populace of such territories and kill opportunistic raiders, which earned the peasantry's eternal gratitude. Their ideology also caught on in embattled Lycia, which would come to call the civil war "The War of Noble Greed", and led to Black-Fang-imitators becoming the effective government in territories in which the ruling nobles had been killed. Caelin also became sympathetic to the Black Fang due to Jan [Remember him? No? Er... Night of Farewells ring a bell?] poisoning Lundgren (who had seized power as he would in canon a few years down the line) and giving Marquess Hausen the antidote.
With the ranks of their followers unexpectedly swelled, they extended operations to Eturia and back into Bern. And... well, that's where I basically run out of planning, because international guerilla-politics are not my specialty. :| (Besides, I never got past Chapter 2's rehash of Siblings Abroad.)
