World record solar cell with 44.7% efficiency (the record last year was <http://phys.org/news/2012-12-solar-cell-world-highest-conversion.html#nrlv>37.7% - progress!)
A neurological basis for the lack of empathy in psychopaths
...Though this really feels like a "bears shit in the woods" study, to be honest.
But when [psychopathic] participants imagined pain to others, these regions [involved in empathy] failed to become active in high psychopaths. Moreover, psychopaths showed an increased response in the ventral striatum, an area known to be involved in pleasure, when imagining others in pain.
Gasp! Some people are sadistic assholes! This... uh... um. Has been known only since... you know... ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY?
(And out of curiosity, do the opposite results hold true for those with algolagnia? That is to say, do they feel empathy when imagining the pain of others but pleasure when imagining their own, or empathy in both cases, or pleasure in both cases, or both?)
It's interesting inasmuch as it confirms my suspicion that the true pathology of psychopaths is nowhere near ~lack of emotion~ or simple ~lack of empathy~ and instead has far more to do with active malice. In my opinion, the sooner that can get clarified, the better. I would think that would cut the psychopath-glorification in popular culture by a good deal, and cease the equating of the non-emotional and/or low-empathizers with psychopaths to boot. ...Both of which are particular peeves of mine, incidentally. :P
