Bein' not much of a shipper...

I have to admit I'm surprised by the FE ship wars. Except if you question the holy Eliwood/Ninian, heretic. Let's completely ignore that I managed to get Eliwood/Hector A the first time around... XP;; More seriously - how exactly do you claim anything as canon when, by definition, all the ships given in support-conversations are canon? One-sided Ninian/Eliwood is canon regardless of Eliwood's interests, but whether Eliwood is more interested in her, Lyn, or Fiora is *chokes* entirely up to the player. Same goes for Hector/Lyn, Hector/Florina, Hector/Farina, or, hell, Hector/Lyn/Florina/Farina. The only question is whether it's Hector's harem or Lyn's.

Why fight over it? Just match up the appropriate supports in your OWN games and have at it.

FE7/FE8 ship-warriors are all spoiled, anyway. Used to be only Roy got to have ANY paired endings, and Ray/Sophia, Noah/Fir, and so on and so forth had to just rot away into dust. XP

I just find it silly that a game that allows you to choose your own "canon" ships attracts ship wars. I mean, a game or story with a fixed canon? That I could understand. If the fans, for some gadforsaken reason, wanted to ship Athos/Aenir or Nergal/Bramimond or some other unnatural and heretical pairing, I could understand ship wars - There Can Be Only One. But when any Arena chapter doubles as a dating sim? Hrooonk?

Sadly, I think the choice factor IS what causes the shipping wars. :/ Because rabid shippers tend to need their pairing to be canon in order to validate their opinions, and if there is no True Canon, all the more reason for fighting.

/analysis wank

Don't get me wrong, it's still silly as hell. Choices SHOULD logically mean less shipping wars, and it's not like canon should matter either. Canon's never stopped people from shipping pairings like Tohru/Yuki, Rei/Usagi, Nephrite/Jadeite and Zuko/Toph.

I agree and I think that the fact that insane shipping wars exist in the Pokemon fandom (which was never about the shipping) confirms it. These shippers just have to prove that they're right and since their ships make sense in canon (as in, they don't contradict canon), they don't have the restraint of "look, I know this isn't canon, but..." Case in point: Cori Falls. She tried to argue that Jessie and James shouldn't be paired with anyone but each other, and as a corollary, said that James couldn't possibly be gay. Now, there's no reason to think James is gay in canon, but by the same token there's also not really any reason to think he isn't (since I don't think Jessie and James ever do anything expressly romantic at any point in the anime?). And that's in the anime, whose canon and shipping preferences are much less... fluid than in the games, where just about anything goes.

Oh God, Pokemon shipping wars. From what I've seen it's WAY worse in the anime, though, the only shipping BS I've seen in the gameverse fandom has been "bawww there's too much of this ship" or "haha our ship is more popular"...Die For Our Ship is rare. Though that doesn't make the examples I've seen less irritating (an ex-friend of mine said Lyra is on her "must kill" list because SoulSilverShipping is so popular, for example).

The anime, on the other hand? Aside from Cori and her self-righteous Rocketshipping ways, we have the Ash shipping wars, the yaoi fanbrats, the shrieking denial of any same-sex subtext, etc. It's a fucking mess.
