Where, if anywhere, was the wank in GBA FE fandom? I know about the grand Ship Wars, I know about the occasional flares of homophobia, and I know there was some bashing of female characters... any other trends? (Yes, I know about Gunlord, though I still don't know what he got in trouble for.) Characterization-wank, non-Gunlord-BNF-wank, which-game-was-best wank? :P

Just curious.
[And am I correct in saying the main console-FE wank was over the Ike/Soren versus Ike-het ship wars?]

Eh? Why the sudden curiosity? :3 But anyway...

There was a major wankstorm when FE8's English release was first announced back in fall of 2004. Some of the big name FE fans went on a rampage, screeching their hate at NoA and bashing the localization of FE7 for a whole host of reasons, making ridiculous assumptions that FE8 would be totally Bowdlerized. Things calmed down for a while until FE8 had an official English release date, and then crap started over the translations and the English names and even a boss having one stat lowered by a point.

It was pretty ridiculous, on par with the Sub vs Dub wars in anime fandom.

Ah, just curious. Was discussing non-wanky fandoms versus wanklandmine-every-few-square-feet fandoms, and I seemed to recall FE was fairly non-wanky - well, relatively speaking. Every fandom gets hit with homophobe-wank, ship-wank, and (if applicable) localization-wank these days, so I figured FE was pretty sane for not having major IC/OOC wank, BNF-fandom wars, or THIS FANDOM IS RUINED FOREVER wank. Seems like that's about the case. :)

Pfft. On the subject of this icon, incidentally, I may someday figure out what the Japanese translation of 'Wank cannot be helped' is, and create an icon appropriate for alllllll localization wars. Now, half the people involved will probably miss the joke, buuuut... :P

Aah. :D Yeah, compared to big-name fandoms like Bleach, Naruto, Final Fantasy and others FE was pretty tame...we maybe had like 1 wank every few years (FE8 localization, Ike/Soren special convo/"canon yaoi" in FE10). But then the anon meme started and KABOOM! Bitching about slash and elitism and reviews and fanfic and everything else in between, drama, whining, personal attacks.

Ah, I toooootally ignore the anon meme. As far as I'm concerned, anonymity ought to be for kink memes, and not much else - it's just asking for trouble.

Anon meme's all but dead now. But yeah, I agree. I've seen a few anon memes I've liked, but the FE one just turned into a bunch of stupid crap.
