Dear Social Justice Bloggers:
Stop talking about how damn PRIVILEGED you are.
Yes, we got it the first dozen times. You're privileged! You're privileged! You're really, really privileged, and you think it's terribly Right and Proper of you to emphasize how privileged you are so everyone knows you're repentant!
You know what shows off how privileged you are? That you think you're doing anything special by announcing how privileged you are. Anyone who doesn't share a given privilege with you is ABUNDANTLY aware of how privileged you are, thanks. That might have to do with the smug tunnel-vision and self-constructed sainthood in your speech - just tossing that out there, no need to pay attention to an unenlightened peon like me.
You really want to make up for your privilege? THINK about how people who don't share your circumstances might react to something, LEARN about the differences between you and those who aren't like you, and MAKE APOLOGIES about your mistakes and your ignorance. Your ACTUAL, SPECIFIC mistakes and your TRULY UNINTENTIONAL ignorance, mind, not just "Oh, it was my eeevil privilege acting up again, I've been SO bad - do PUNISH me next time, oh yesss, like the awful, privileged person I am *heavy breathing*".
Come off it. The parable of the taxman and the Pharisee applies to more than religion.
