What?!

It's getting to be that time of year when I feel at once moody and creative. (To be distinguished from the summer, when I feel creative, and the period up to now [and probably intermittently throughout the rest of the fall and the entirety of winter] , when I just feel moody.)

What I did yesterday: Met with a professor. Responded to a friend. Passed out early.
What I did today: Talked to people on Tumblr. Various real-life errands.
Very unproductive days. Sorry.
Things I really should have done: Worked on research. Did more.
Benefits I would have gotten from that: Learning more about what the blazes is going on with this [research] problem; burning calories; knowing more French; knowing more Spanish, coming closer to actually driving; posting on the Nuzlocke Forums again; etc.
Reasons I didn't do that: "really not feeling it" in general. I... have no idea, all right. I felt like doing nothing today.
What I should have done: Drunk more caffeine earlier in the day.

Chances of doing things tomorrow (August 28): Low. ...don't get what happened. Tired.
Ideas: Bleugh.

...Hoping the energy-levels thing is just hormonal. Anyway - eh, off to do something. Nuzlockes, maybe? I haven't touched those in ages...

What I did today: E-mailed a professor. Worked a bit on my research. Talked to people on Tumblr. Began exercising again. Doodled a fat lot. Picked back up a game I should have finished ages ago. Came up with dumb original-fiction plot ideas.
Things I really should have done: Reviewed French; reviewed Driver's Manual; continued Nuzlockes
Benefits I would have gotten from that: Knowing more French; knowing more Spanish, coming closer to actually driving; posting on the Nuzlocke Forums again
Reasons I didn't do that: too distracted by Tumblr, "really not feeling it" in general, took a long time to write the e-mail to the professor due to having to double-check some things, kind of out of it today
What I should have done: drank more caffeine, gotten the e-mail out of the way earlier, restricted Internet use

Chances of doing things tomorrow (August 26): Not high; will have to meet professor in morning. Tend to be tired afterwards.
Ideas: Restrict Tumblr to morning and between 6-9 PM to catch activity of certain east US friends. Focus on 'work' thinking. Haul laptop around with me. Write in my notebooks when not otherwise occupied. Work on creating translation-keys for my own benefit.

I have no idea how much of these virtuous ideas I'll actually follow, but I'm hoping to motivate myself to do more by posting my actual activities. HabitRPG tended to fall through due to suffering severe penalties if I simply forgot to be present for a day, I completely forget about checklists without outside motivation, and I reacted well to posting my exercise updates on Tumblr (until I came down withThe Not-Flu From Hell). I'm hoping it will work here too.

This summer has been... a fine example of the Ancient Chinese Curse. I really wish I had accomplished more, but oh well.

Current tasks:
-Work more on my research. It's at a difficult point right now, but there's no way to get through it but doing it.
-Place all Nuzlockes but STOP! THIEF! on hiatus and work on updating that one. It's my main one, and I don't have the mental energy to update PLAGUE BEARER. PERFECT WATER had its deadline expire, but I'll live. I can always restart it as a regular run if need be. Again - don't have the mental energy for either 'plot' run. I don't like doing this, but I don't even know if I'll update STOP! THIEF! at this point.
-Start JE NE PARLE PAS FRANCAIS: A Nuzlocke of Pokemon Version Rouge. No, hear me out. This HAS A REASON. For school, I need to understand French. What better way to learn than to subject myself immerse myself in a game entirely in French? *groan*
-Memorize my Driver's Manual in preparation for taking the appropriate tests.
-EXERCISE.

There's also a lot of junk with my various scattered ideas that I'd like to do, but those are the absolute core ones. I'm sorry - I haven't simultaneously had the inspiration and the free time to update Nuzlockes and sporkings for weeks.

So there we are. (Sorry I haven't been on Dreamwidth much. I've been on Tumblr slightly more, but not by much.)

(I was thinking of doing a Backstroke of the West-themed Randomized Nuzlocke of Pokemon Green after Randomized Silver was completed. The only captions allowed on screenshots would come from this textfile. That idea blesses god'sly, no?)

I don't have the time for {LJ/DW AND fanfiction} AND {Nuzlocke Forums} AND {Tumblr}. Hell, I barely have enough time for ONE of the above and Real Life.

I don't get it. I had more time at the very beginning of the summer... :\ I don't understand it, though I suppose I should be glad I have more going on in Real Life. Still - it unnerves me to notice that I have to either go days without updating Tumblr or without updating Nuzlockes. And of course I've unfortunately made a joke of LJ/DW.

Heck, I haven't even had much Tumblr interaction except at night...

Oh well. I've people on Tumblr with whom I need to stay in contact, but aside from that I need to cut back. *sigh* I also updated a Nuzlocke, which gives me leeway. (Silver Randomlocke is two updates away from completion! :D) And...

Blah.

Silver Randomlocke and STOP! THIEF! have both been updated. Though I haven't updated to that point yet, Silver Randomlocke currently stands at 15/16 badges. I just need to grind the team to 53 for Blue (5 levels below his aces).

...And then it's the long slog to 72 for Red. Oh JOY.

Who thought up this level curve, again?

At any rate, I may actually complete a project for once. That would be... really nice. Really, really nice.

Anyway, I hope you're all doing well. I've been not doing much on the Internet (and avoiding Tumblr entirely) because I was letting Tumblr take over my life. That's done now. I've got things that MUST be done in real life, and so... :\

I'm sorry if I sound down. I'm guilty over not responding to people when I know I should, I should be accomplishing more, and the updates of the Nuzlockes are really the only things of value that I've done recently. I'm... kind of feeling depressive states of mind returning, too. Hopefully those will clear up once I get things done. I've at least cleaned my room and workspace, so I'm PREPARED to get stuff done. I just... haven't... actually taken the final step of GETTING things done, that's all.

I'd like to thank anyone who's been interacting with me and thus kicking me in the ass in this manner. (Not intentionally. But guilt -> work, eventually.) All right, so the people interacting with me are on Tumblr rather than LJ/Dreamwidth, and so won't see this, but still. *sheepish* For all that the Internet is a time sink, many people have done me a ton of good. Thanks, everyone. Both here and elsewhere. May we all do our best, and I hope I can be as great a help to you as you have been to me. In times to come, perhaps? *toasts*

I think I figured out the characterizations for my Camp NaNo protagonists. ...Admittedly it embarrassed me to realize that I've done this "trio" before (in fanfic form - I took certain canon characters and interpreted them in a direction to my choosing), but at least I know I can get passionate about this bunch. I crashed on the earlier fic because events occurred that basically destroyed all my self-confidence, and the plot outline for this trio is embarrassingly gung-ho, but this is a more cynical take on the whole matter anyway. If I can maintain a certain level of competency in interpersonal relations, I SHOULD be able to get these three going.

Now I have to figure out the plot. :\ It's a fix-fic trio, so I have to put them in a setting where things are indescribably screwed-up. Old setting(s) used Harry Potter. I also... considered something in Fire Emblem (Elibe), but it basically sandwiched all three characters into one and had the other two as paler versions of their respective archetypes. I could have written THAT one, but I unfortunately got too eaten alive by real life to continue that.

Ugh. Now I have to work out the division of powers. The bright side is that the archetype used for the main character doesn't really need that many powers, since it's a personality thing. Unfortunately the other two do need their respective abilities (and one REALLY needs powers), so... bleh. I need world-building. I really am not big on the world-building-from-scratch thing because the sheer number of factors overwhelms me. *groans* And I always get caught up with 'How does this work?', which sabotages me when I'm trying to design the damn thing, so... bleeeeeeh. I suppose I could always solicit input from some people I know, but... meh. My brain gets eaten by Fridge Logic, forgive me.

Anyway, at least I'm now solid on the archetypes. The downside is that I always crash during the planning stages for this group, so... I'm going to force myself to undergo the hard work of figuring out the plot. D| Ah fuck, I fuckin' hate this part...

(Two Full Restores per Pokemon from second Leader on was REALLY fucking cheesy, though. I was NOT forewarned about that.)

It was fine. I'd figured out how to break (most of) the hack's level curve anyway, so I really only ran into trouble because I screwed around rather than just hyper-leveling boosted!Raticate. I... really did it just because I was goofing off, anyway.

Eh, now I can do Alt Evos with a clean conscience. :P At least that hack creator told players what the level curve was there. (No &!@(ing idiocy like L38 Pokemon at Lt. Surge...)

I just wanted to retry Unprejudiced Red (in a marathon session) after my first failed run. I didn't fail this run, but I kind of got tired of it. (The strategy became too simplistic with all the overly-good Pokemon, much to my surprise. Sleep + Leech + win. Sleep + Tail Glow + win. &c &c &c)

Plus, I guess I'm really not good at blindly running hacks. Grinding doth bore me. :P

However, I've got to organize the plot of the Alt Evos run before actually playing it. While working. And... bleh. :P Well, welcome to the summer...

Part of the problem from my having a hysterical temperament wasn't just that I got hurt with great ease, it was that I could get riled up with equal ease. And that put me at the mercy of anyone who could get me riled up.

So the rage was as much a weakness as the oversensitivity.

I feel so much better now for having realized this, I can't even tell you.

I don't know quite why it makes me feel better... but it does.

Anyway, the pleasant effects will probably wear off by next morning, but it's nice for the moment. I just... hm. I'm going to sit here and think about this for a while.

Due to the Will and Testament, it actually begins only on page 70 or so. But it's hilarious. The woman is so full of herself and the points of sleight-of-hand are so obvious.
Screw ~realistic~ fiction, I prefer history.

For a woman who claimed that Queen Anne was a lesbian (with her replacement as the queen's favorite), the intro sure sounds like yuri. *snerk* 'Oh, our friendship was so great that she couldn't bear addressing me as a lesser, so we invented usernames pennames that were on the same level!'
(And should you say that 'well, they had very strong platonic relationships back then' - the Duchess of Marlborough prodded Queen Anne about the charge, not me.)

...Jeez, this is melodramatic and slashy. Admittedly Anne was dead at this point, so she couldn't gainsay anything she was claimed to have written, but, if it were made up, surely the Duchess of Marlborough grasped what this looked like.

Then again, this is the woman who thought it was a good idea to TELL THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND to shut up during a heated argument. Yes. Sarah Churchill in a nutshell.

I began, but... ahhhh, I decided I'm not in the mood for a Villain Protagonist at present. That, and my ruleset got bizarrely pretentious, and pretentiousness is usually a marker that I need to go off and do something else for a while.

(The ruleset makes sense and doesn't look that badly written. The issue is that, whenever I get pretentious, I've usually lost my sense of judgment in some way, and I can't figure out in what manner until later. In this case, I THINK it was that I fluffed it out massively when I could have just said it tersely. I think.)

I'm probably just bored with Gen 1/Gen 2 games and should take a break with a more casual run.
(Another issue with pretentiousness: it's usually a marker that I'll blow a ton of energy on it at first, then take one look at it later and go 'WTF? What was I trying to do here?!' Don't get me wrong, I would LIVE off of pretentiousness if I had the energy level necessary, but I crash a few updates/~1000 words into something and don't have the energy level to pick it up again. The enthusiasm is gone.)

Fortunately, Poisoned Haven got moved to Other Adventures, so I'm not so keen to finish it. That frees me up to do another run... if I really want to do so.

Thank heavens, that means I could potentially do the Rocketlocke sometime in the next century.

Aside from that, Thieflocke is taking about 10 updates per game-section due to the sheer amount of Engrish. The terrifying thing is that it's gotten 4,600+ (non-unique) hits, so people are definitely reading through the trainwreck. (Fortunately, I was able to 'cheat' through the Celadon Gym via severe Twineedle abuse, so that didn't take longer than it had to.) That said... I'm probably not finishing it for some time due to the humor value. And Team Rocket members keep calling me "skunk". :psyduck:

I guess Silver Randomlocke is the only run that's getting finished any time soon. *sigh* I really don't want to risk Remoillent, but such is life. After Lance, I suppose anything is possible. Erika's reasonably weak, so I'll consider taking her out first. I'd prefer Janine, but it depends on how quickly I find my way to Fuchsia... At least the complete-crap Trainers make for good Exp. packets.

(Seriously, though - 449 images just for Erika and the opening of Rocket Hideout. *sigh* I know I took time off to catch several Pokemon, but that is a LOT. Was the Blue Nuzlocke this bad? My apologies, everyone. It only really hits home when you're limited to posting 50 images at a time.)

I'd estimate that Silver Randomlocke is 75% done (having just begun on Kanto - which is essentially a Gym Leader boss rush with woefully inadequate Trainers), Poisoned Haven is 50% done (ugh, plot), and STOP! THIEF! is 33% done (having cleared Rock Tunnel). So... basically, if I could just bear to risk the Kabutops, I could get through one long-overdue run straightaway and begin on finishing the others.

In the comments, either on DW or LJ, state your writing goals for next week. You decide how ambitious you want to be; just getting started on a fic, for instance, is a perfectly valid goal.

Just posting this in case anyone else wants to do this. It's a great idea, so I wanted to share it around. :D

1. Only Pokemon used by the Rival may be used.
2. First USEABLE Pokemon may be caught; in concession to the limited catch pool, the usual Monolocke rule of "three attempts allowed" is in play.
3. Any Pokemon that faints is unusable for the duration of the run.
4. OPTIONAL: the ROM must be hacked to give you the same starter as the Rival. If playing on a cartridge, just ignore this rule.

For RBG, this means you are limited to the Rattata, Pidgey, Abra, Magikarp, Exeggcute, Growlithe, Rhyhorn, and [Starter] evolutionary lines.

Pidgey: anywhere
Abra: above Cerulean, Celadon Game Corner
Exeggcute: Safari Zone

Commentary: in some sense, you are getting the best Pokemon lines in the game. In another sense, you're highly limited (especially early on) and may suffer difficulties.

Hasn't happened. At all.
...Matter of fact, I'm just not into fic right now. I... feel like my brain's developing too much for fic. I mean, that's a GREAT thing, but my worldview keeps changing too rapidly for me to really fix my brain on any fic idea. Literally, it's about half darkness, gloom, and cynicism, and half loving everything, trying to be optimistic, and setting out for a better world. Which is good, don't get me wrong, but... how am I going to come up with any model for a fic-world when I can't even decide upon my current psychological model for the real world? XD;;
-Devise a original fic plot that will actually sell
Urrrrrgh. I... KIND of have a few, but they either run into my emotional issues or have annoyingly unsympathetic characters as the protags. I'll work on this.
-Make more friends both IRL and online
I've made... maybe one or two more than I had at the start of the year. I'm just not that good at befriending people, I guess.
-Improve muscle tone
I... think this is getting better? I sprained my ankle for a week, so I wasn't able to do some of the exercise I wanted. At least my arms have some muscle tone now, I guess. :\
-Lose weight
I have no idea. I hope I've lost a little.
-Generally act like a sensible and intelligent human being I'LL FOOL THEM ALL
Meh. :P I'm actually improving on this front! I have my own motivations, mweh heh heh. I'm more shocked than any of you guys are. XD;; Seriously, I would never have guessed that it would actually WORK.

So that's the report.

Overall, I haven't improved as much as I would have liked by now, but... I really wasn't expecting the improvement in worldview to the extent that it has taken place, and that's slanted my plans a ton off of what I'd expected they'd be. My brain's developing. I'm feeling better. I'm looking forward to my future, even if it's going to be more chaotic than I'd like for a while to come.

The fine details... are being worked on. *sweatdrop* I'm trying to deal with my attentional issues through discipline, but it's an upwards battle. My emotional stability is... highly variable, but I'm at least in good enough shape to fix it up. (Provided I can prevent events that legitimately throw me off-course from happening or ameliorate their effects when they do.) I have trouble getting myself to do everything I should be doing, but I've ALWAYS had trouble with that, and at least the distractions are increasingly Other Things Getting Done rather than just mindless avoidance of work. I suppose I should make lists - with my brain more active, To-Do Lists might finally be more than commands to myself that I write down and forget to follow...

So, in summary, things have gotten better. It's just that... in getting better... I've realized how far I have to go. :\ Eesh. ...Well, I had to realize it sometime, I guess.

...It's good. I'm dissatisfied with how I am now, but... at the same time, I feel like I'm really living. And, when I say "dissatisfied", I mean that I'm going to CHANGE to become more satisfactory to myself (and am taking steps towards accomplishing that goal), rather than being convinced that I'm going to be a permanent failure and there's no hope for anything in the long-term, no matter what I do. And that change is... very pleasant. Believe me.
