guardians_song: Part of Fire Emblem 7's Chapter 19xx CG, colored (Nergal and children)

On this episode of The Computer Is A Lying Bastard Who Lies...

Yeah, Raven misses EXACTLY the hit he would have needed to survive. On a '670 gold' fight. Mm-hmm. 'Easy', my posterior.

Don't trust the Arena numbers when it's Raven in the Arena. The computer has a peculiar hatred of him and him in particular.

I also found out how HHM raised the difficulty of the Arena. Tricky little bastard. It's not that it's harder, no. It's that it refuses to spit out ANY bets lower than 900 gold for certain characters, and gives only 1-in-5 bets under 700 for even its most favored sons.

I am SPECIFICALLY feeding non-blessed units EXP in order to see if raising their levels would help. (Guy and Lucius are beloved of the Arena, Canas and Rebecca are accursed, and Raven is middling.) That was ridiculous.

Damian was just as much of a cakewalk the second time. Hector is one-shotting several Pirates with his Silver Axe from Talons Alight. This is a beautiful and ridiculous sight, and I want to engrave it into my memory. I always thought Hector the Memetic Axe God was a little bit overblown, but now I see why people regard him as Fire Emblem Chuck Norris. Never change, Hector of Ostia. Never change.

(Predictions: Guy and Lucius will wander out at or close to level 20, Priscilla will be also maxed, Raven will stagger out at level 18 or so after a hundred more turns, and Canas and Rebecca will have gained only  a few levels at best. :| *sigh* HHM!)

Progress second time MUCH easier.

Knowing what I do, I'll have... WTH is with the Arena's sudden grudge against Lucius? I had to do about 20 tries before it would give me a 700 gold bet. It used to take only 10 or so to give him an under-700. Maybe because he's not as well-leveled?

This is ridiculous. I'll record the numbers for the next turn, because this one is screwed. How does this thing do the RNGs for the bets, anyway?!

I ended up dying, so this is no longer relevant... but possibly entertaining/informative. I'm on my fourth try now (third, uh... Damian killed Lucius, WHOOPS). )

...

20 STR, 20 SKL, 19 SPD, 6 LCK, 9 DEF, 5 RES...

Raven, you're not a Myrmidon on steroids, even at level 20. But it's nice of you to pretend to be one ~<3

Exited Port of Badon with Level 20 Raven, Level 20 Guy, Level 10 Lucius, and Level 10 Canas.

Rebecca didn't get to go in the Arena once. D|

Current "Pirate Ship" strategy: Huddle behind Hector and Oswin for first few turns and try not to get the damn Glass Cannons Rebecca and Lucius killed off. On... fourth or so run right now, due to getting Rebecca and Lucius repeatedly killed off in the first few turns. =________=;; Good HEAVENS, they are flimsy.

Execute Operation 'Fetal Position', everybody.

...So.

I could have won it on the tenth try via time-out. But then I wouldn't have gotten the Guiding Ring. ****ING Peg. Knight clusterf****!

Ser Deadwood has been replaced by Kent, long may he reign. ("Wait," you ask, "why are you using KENT when you expressed a fervent belief in Sain's greatness?" Because. in the land of the excruciatingly painful cluster****, 11 DEF/3 RES >10 DEF/0 RES. That's why.)

AHAHAHAHA OH GAD. MADE IT ALL THE WAY ON TRY ELEVEN. FINAL TURN. MATTHEW DASHED DOWN AND GRABBED THE GUIDING RING, AND SWORDSMASTER GUY, SUPPORTED BY PRISCILLA, DEALT THE FINAL BLOWS WITH A STEEL SWORD. OH GAD, THAT WAS NERVE-WRACKING. JUST SAVED AND TURNED OFF MY DS. MY HEART. BE STILL, MY FREAKING HEART.

MVPS: Oswin, Guy!!!, Hector, Kent (as a substitute wall)
Second tier: Priscilla, Lucius
Necessary oddball: Matthew
Came in handy at a few points: Rebecca

H-holy crud... I never want to do that level again... not unless I have a pre-promoted Kent/pre-promoted Sain or something... Oh gad. NO. That was...

Okay, imagine two solid rows of the pirate ship filled with enemies. THAT was what awaited me if I didn't immediately go on the offensive using Javelin!Oswin, Hand Axe!Hector, and ZOMGWTF!Guy. And the Peg. Knights - dear gad, you know how in some games, you have to do  a sort of flash-dance to take out regenerating parts of the boss before it can fire its ultimate, all-parts-needed attack? Well, that perfectly describes the Peg. Knights. I had to do a ridiculous shuffle every turn they came up to take Matthew, Lucius, Rebecca, and Priscilla out of their ranges.

And that was with Arena Abuse on Guy. (And a little on Lucius, to be fair, but he overkilled the Shamans so ridiculously that it wasn't necessary. This is an awesome Lucius - pray that he doesn't get RNG-bombed in the next 9 or so levels.)

Ahahahaha... Holy cripes... Not doing that again any time soon. Wow.

Now, onto The Dread Isle, aka "Fog, fog, and more fog!" And Fiora, of course. Musn't forget Fiora. And a clusterf... I mean, Orion's Bolt, if I can get Matthew to sprint down to Uhai in under 15 turns and have Sword Saint Guy of the Kutolah bid a sad farewell to his fellow plainsman. It may even be manageable, since Sword Saint Guy's girlfriend is getting a lovely ring as thanks for her support at sea.

Hehehehe. Two promoted units by The Dread Isle (one of them a magic unit, sadly - will just have to be moral support on Imprisoner of Magic)? This mode may be doable after all.

*points to icon* I may be on that chapter soon enough...

The Dread Isle notes.

Rebecca... not that good. Sain... all right, but half blind. Nomads... ****ING SPIDER-DEMONS FROM HELL.

Also, I need to remember to remove Matthew's Iron Sword. He would become approximately twice as durable without it.

Canas: AS 8, DEF 6.
Lucius: AS 11... DEF 1.

Sorry, Lucius. At this rate, you might wind up getting benched until we can rustle up a Hero Crest for your husband.
(Erk, even if I cared to use him, is a pathetic milquetoast with 6 MAG at level 9. Go marry Serra, dear. You can have magically-differently-abled children. *eyeroll*)

STATUS REPORT:
All units alive. Orion's Bolt captured. Now if only Rebecca was a good unit.
Fiora obtained. Weaponless Matthew far more effective than sword-wielder!Matthew.

Onto 'Prisoner of Magic'!
